After their success performance at the 2009 Teignmouth Folk Festival, we are delighted to have Habbadam return this year to headline our Friday Night Concert. The Danish/Swedish trio Habbadám plays music from the little picturesque island of Bornholm, situated in the Baltic Sea. On the island a large treasure of traditional tunes can be found, and the trio have searched through the many archives and museums to find their great repertoire of tunes. The music is sweet and melancholic as well as rhythmic and swingy. Strong connections can be made to both Scandinavian, Baltic and English music. In December 2007 Habbadám released their first album "Bornholmsk Folkemusik" who recievied great reception and in March 2008 they won the Danish Folk Music Award's prize Debut of the Year. "The music is a pleasure throughout, but perhaps the greatest joy is in hearing a young generation work to not only keep this music alive, but reinvigorate it; everything here is as vibrant as if it has just been written" (Chris Nixon in fRoots) Habbadám has, since the band was formed in 2004, been performing and touring in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Scotland and New Zealand. The band performs in an intense and flirting ensemble and creates the music impulsively between them. The sound they create together is a unique blend of past and present which brings an intense experience to the listener. Press Reviews Tim O`Brien: "Fans of traditional Celtic and Scandinavian dance music will love the new cd by Habbadám. With capable hands and voices, pristine production, and essential heart and soul, this exciting new trio brings the tunes and songs of the Danish Island of Bornholm to life. I've never been to Bornholm, but hearing Habbadám, I'm tempted to visit soon." Chris Newman: "A delightful recording by three extremely talented young Scandinavian musicians. I'd never heard much about the music of the Baltic island of Bornholm , but this recording guarantees it'll be heard by a much wider audience in the future. Fabulous stuff!"
